Amblyopia Detection
Amblyopia is also commonly called “lazy” eye. It is the most common cause of vision loss in children. Vision is a combination of the eye and brain working together correctly. If the vision is blurry in one eye or both eyes, then the brain will not develop vision properly and cause weak vision in one or both eyes. It is important to detect amblyopia before the age of 6 for maximum treatment and improving vision in the weaker eye before the brain shuts down vision to that eye. Dr. Hoover is able to detect the type of ambylopia your child may have and advise proper treatment.

Contact Lens Evaluation
Contact Lenses are medical devices that are applied directly onto the surface of the cornea. The corneal shape is different on every individual and the correct size and prescription must be determined in order to allow for maximum comfort, vision and integrity of the health of the eye. If the correct fit of the lens is not properly evaluated for, corneal bacterial ulcers, scars, aberrant blood vessels can form on the cornea as well as dry eye syndrome can result and possibly cause scars that blind the eye. Dr. Hoover examines the eye thoroughly to make sure the correct fitted lens is fit onto the eye.
The contact lens department at Optical Outlets offers a premier inventory of lenses including daily disposables, color enhancing lenses, toric or astigmatism lenses, multifocal and other specialty lenses. Because of this, Optical Outlets is able to provide diagnostic lenses to accelerate the fitting process at almost every exam. Optical Outlets offers a vast stock of lenses available for purchase in the office.

Disease
If you have diabetes, it is imperative to be screened for diabetic retinopathy. If you have a family history of glaucoma or macular degeneration, Dr. Hoover can dilate and determine if there is a need for further testing and treatment. If your eyes feel like they burn, itch and/ or water a lot, Dr. Hoover can evaluate, determine the cause and recommend a treatment to improve your eye comfort.

Emergency Eye Care
If you get an object stuck in your eye such as a piece of metal, fiberglass, vegetative material or contact lens, Dr. Hoover can remove it and prescribe drops to heal the wound. If your eye is red, tender, you have light sensitivity and pain and wear contact lenses, you could have a corneal ulcer and prescription drops will need to be put into your eyes every hour right away. Dr. Hoover can evaluate and treat most emergency red eye issues.
